The Northeastern Beach Tiger Beetle (Cicindela dorsalis dorsalis) is the mascot of the Eastern Shore Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist.
The tiger beetle is large, attractive, and cream colored. It roams beaches on the Chesapeake Bay and parts of the Atlantic coast. These predatory beetles have large pinching jaws, long legs and allow fast movements and long antennae. They prey on insects. These beetles are studied on a field trip to Savage Neck Dunes NAP.
